John Hill is a singer songwriter residing near Ashland, OR. He has been a performing artist for many years, in various degrees. Years ago he opened for the music legend John Fahey and more recently contemporary artist Sean Hayes. He has performed at the Britt cafe stage twice, the 2012 Florence Winter Folk festival, and as a musical actor, he has performed in a couple of shows for the Oregon Cabaret Theatre, a professional Cabaret in Ashland, OR. His debut album "Across the Field of Dreams", which he produced himself, was completed as of 1/11'. In this collection, he sings and plays slide guitar, rhythm and finger-style guitar. Six of these ten songs were written while producing this album. The four others, "Raven", "Prodigal Son", "Bacchanalia" and "Take Me to the River" are mystical and earthy reflections written about ten years ago while living in a one room cabin in the lush countryside near Alpine, OR. "This Train" is an old Gospel standard that John recently re-wrote as a wry commentary of our current state of affairs and what got us here. His back up vocals come from talented locals Adey Garner and Asha Goldstein and most recently Jill Yvonne on a remix of the title track "Across the Field of Dreams". The guitars John plays on for this album are a Guild F-30, an old Harmony Sovereign re-worked for playing lap slide and an electric for fills and solos. While currently working towards completion of his next album, John is enjoying life in southern Oregon. After a ten year hiatus from performing as a solo singer songwriter / guitarist, he is currently quickly becoming a favorite and sought after performer at popular clubs and wineries in the Ashland as well as the Portland area. |

Medford just got Cooler - Roxy on Main
So this last Saturday I had a very cool experience playing the new Jazz / Folk music venue, the Roxy on Main street in Medford, OR. It is a medium sized rectangular shaped room with subtle lighting, high ceilings in a historic brick building in old Medford. The menu is diverse and fairly priced yet with all of the choices fit on one page for an easy decision making process, complete with full bar. The owners set the pace for a very friendly and laid back space that caters to the ears and minds of true music appreciators. The acoustics are at this time good with promises from the owner Brian of some additional acoustic engineering for even a more balanced room sound that will still the overtones of conversations that may interfere with the subtlety of the music. Great space, containing all of the elements for a stimulating yet relaxing music appreciators night out on the town.
