Feels good to be back playing again after a couple of months off for moving. I am having fun playing for the folks up at The Green Springs Inn amongst other local venues. Sweet, Sunday summer afternoons.
John Hill is a singer songwriter residing near Ashland, OR. He has been a performing artist for many years, in various degrees. After a ten year hiatus he could no long ingore his calling and returned to solo acoustic performance in 2011. Years ago he opened for the music legend John Fahey and more recently contemporary artist Sean Hayes. Recently he was one of the featured artists at the 2012 Florence Winter Folk festival, the 2012 and 2011 Prospect Folk Festival and in the recent past as a musical actor, he has performed in a couple of shows for the Oregon Cabaret Theatre, a professional Cabaret in Ashland, OR.
Two albums to his credit thus far, the first "Across the Field of Dreams" completed in 2011 and more recently "Folk and American Blues" 2013. Like many modern recording artists, both albums are entirely self recorded and produced and he plays all of the instruments as well.
His articulate and rich baritone voice interplays with his adept finger style and rythmic lap slide acoustic guitar and occasional stomp box and melodic harmonica to acquire the affect of a small tight band. His various influences include traditional and contemporary folk, blues, americana and a bit of 40's crooning. All combine to provide an intriguing, musical romp through Hill's lush forest of lyrics, melody and syncopation.
